Claire Alfonso is an interdisciplinary artist based in Johnson City, TN currently working under the name AIRECLAY.  She adheres to an ethos of sustainability, using almost entirely items and materials found/purchased secondhand in her creation of mixed media pieces and wearable art. AIRECLAY’s work is a form of meditation and emotional processing as well as a study on it. Her art and practice is a continual thought process about death, obsession, sadness, ritual, nature, memory, ephemerality, and beauty communicated through an abstracted language of colors, patterns, and materials.

 

Red, Grief, Wax is an encapsulation of many of these ideas. Mainly, this collection is inspired by death, loss, the mental aftereffects of said experiences, the desire to believe, and the attempt to cope.
